Glenna Jewel Day's Obituary
In the Spring many years ago, Glenna Jewel Day, nee Eiland, arrived on the scene in Tulia, Texas…and so began her incredible journey through this life. Glenna grew up on a dairy farm in the Texas panhandle. After a brief stint working for “Ma Bell”, she met and married J. Bert Day and soon there after became Super Mom to her wonderful children, Sherril and Gregory. When Sherril graduated from high school, Glenna graduated from secretarial school and launched her working career with Midas International. In 1980, Glenna was preceded in death by her husband and after retiring from Midas after 25 years, began a new phase of her adventurous life by starting to snow ski, scuba diving, mountain biking, road biking and, of course, traveling the world. Glenna traveled to at least 6 of the 7 continents and probably visited Antarctica on a South American cruise just a few years ago. After retirement Glenna also spent 5 winters and 5 summer seasons in Aspen, Colorado with Sherril and family working and playing, accompanied by every young person’s dream of a free ski pass. She literally traveled the world including her most recent trips to the British Isles, Australia / NewZealand, and Tahiti. She’s ridden her bicycle through the idyllic countryside of France, through Denmark, the Netherlands as well as down the Danube from Germany to Austria. Other exotic rides included the rainforests of Vancover Island as well as down the sides of volcanoes in Hawaii. In the most recent chapter of Glenna’s life, she enjoyed the good times with dear friends at the Tradition, as well as the time she spent volunteering as an Ambassador at the DFW airport. Through it all Glenna was a faithful and devoted Christian having been a member of the Preston Road Church of Christ most recently, and formerly a member of the Skillman Avenue Church of Christ and the Peak and East Side Church of Christ. Glenna never met a stranger and was loved and admired by all those she knew both at home and around the globe. She showed God’s spirit through the zeal with which she lived her life everyday — never complaining and always full speed ahead. Glenna is survived by her two children, Sherril Kerr of Denton, Tx and Gregory B. Day of Plano, Tx as well as their spouses. She is also survived by two sisters, Charlotte Gosseaux and Camilla Hefley. Glenna adored her four beautiful grandchildren as well as the seven great-grandchildren. A host of dear friends, family and loved ones will always remember and cherish Glenna, the life she lived so well, and the Christlike examplel she modeled for us all. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that gifts to honor Glenna be made in memoriam to the following: Program for Humanitarian Aid, P.O. Box 93794, Southlake, Tx 76092. A charity assisting the needs of Ukrainian orphans. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted into Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas 75243.
