Gloria June Alder's Obituary
Gloria June Alder, 94, died in Dallas on August 11, 2018. Born on June 12, 1924, in Chicago, Illinois, Gloria was the daughter of the late Maximillian Weber and Jeanne Kowalski Weber. Gloria grew up in Chicago, where she graduated from Senn High School. After high school, Gloria attended Rockford College and graduated from Northpark College.Before the War, Gloria met her future husband, Jim Alder, whom she married on April 2, 1949. They had three daughters and moved to Texas when Jim was transferred with his company. After her daughters were out of school, Gloria became a travel agent and traveled extensively with Jim to Japan, Hawaii, Alaska, all over Europe and to numerous other exotic destinations, many of them on cruises where she met new friends and saw the world.Gloria is survived by her daughters, Nancy Sides (son-in-law John), Diane Alder, and Susan Nelson (son-in-law Skipper), her three grandchildren: James Sides, Jennifer Sides, and Victoria Alder, and her sister, Adoree Weber. She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Jim, in 2016. Gloria was all about her family whom she loved dearly. She was a wonderful mother, a talented artist, a world traveler, and a frequent volunteer, memorably serving as a Girl Scout cookie chairman and as President of the Dallas Chi Omega Mother’s Club.Gloria will be remembered for her devotion to and love for her family, her beauty, her lifelong friendships, and her knowledge of travel. She loved music, dancing, and watching movies with her granddaughter. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the special group of caregivers (Diana, Juanita, Carla, Priscilla, and Jan) who made living with her daughter possible for the last two years. Gloria was the best wife, mother, and grandmother and a caring and loyal friend. She will be in our hearts forever.Services will be held this Sunday, August 26 at 3 p.m. at Restland in the Wildwood Chapel. She will be buried at The National Cemetery D/FW with her husband. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Operation Kindness, in honor of Gloria’s love for the dogs in her life.
