Gloria Watson's Obituary
On July 23, 1927, Henrietta Lloyd gave birth to a baby girl that she proudly named Gloria Marie Lloyd. Gloria was the youngest of 16 kids, her mother and step-father had. Even though Gloria was the “Baby Girl” in the family she was as tough as nails. She loved hanging with her brothers AC and RC, she fought with the best of them. Gloria was an intelligent kid, she enjoyed school very much spelling and reading were her favorite subjects in school. Even though Gloria did not go on to Junior High School nor graduate from High School, her education level was that of a college graduate. She was truly blessed in that area. Sometime later, Gloria fell in love with a tall handsome man by the name of Thomas D. Watson, better known as “TW”. At the age of 16, Gloria and TW got married. TW went off to the army, but when he returned he and Gloria moved to Dallas, Texas. Then Gloria was blessed with a job at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Dallas, where she worked for 25 years, getting paid $0.50 an hour. While working at the Hilton, Gloria went to beauty school, where she did very well. Soon she had her cosmetology license and was able to work as a licensed beautician. Although Gloria was unable to conceive children of her own, she and her husband decided to adopt a little girl in 1964 by the name of Merna Watson (Pitts). Merna was Gloria’s pride and joy, because she always wanted children. Gloria was doing a lot working two jobs, being a full-time mother, and wife. This woman had it together by the Grace of God. Gloria was blessed with a new son-in-law, Ronald Pitts, in May 2010. As time went on and Merna got older, in 1982 Gloria and TW had their grandchild, Marisha D. Watson. Gloria and TW enjoyed their new grand baby. A year later TW passed away it was a hard time for Gloria, but being a strong woman of God she made it through. Her and TW were married for 40 years before God called him to Glory. Gloria was later blessed with a grandson named Lemmond Watson, and a granddaughter named Monique Thurmon. Gloria remained a widow until her passing. She was also, the only sibling still living, with a host of nieces and nephews, who she loved dearly , along with two great grand-grandchildren Trevion Howell and Aniaya Watson. With both her own and with many neighborhood kids, she has taken on as her own. She is known to them all as “GRANNY” or “GG”.
