Golda Spainhouer Young's Obituary
Golda Spainhouer Young of Dallas died peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours of Sunday, August 11, 2024. She was born August 1,1929 to Fred and Myrtle Spainhouer in Liberty Grove, a community northeast of Dallas. The youngest child in a farming family, she told stories of the lack of indoor plumbing, of plucking chickens, picking cotton “just that once” and of coming home on a Saturday night to the excitement of a house lit up with electricity.
After spending her childhood in Liberty Grove, Golda rejoiced in city life when the family moved to the bigger town of Garland, Texas. She graduated from Garland High School in 1946 and went to work for Republic National Bank, where she met her future husband, James H. Young. They married in 1949 and lived in Dallas for the rest of their lives.
After both of her children were in school, Golda returned to work, taking a position in the personnel department of Titche’s, a long-time Dallas department store (now owned by Dillard’s) in NorthPark Mall. She advanced to become the head of Personnel, first at Red Bird Mall and later at NorthPark. Upon retiring from Titche’s, Golda worked at Richard Eisman Jewelers as an Office Manager for several years.
When her husband retired, they spent many happy years traveling with their large group of friends. Golda was an elegant lady who kept an immaculate home and loved to host family and friends for dinner or an evening of Forty-Two or Mexican Train. She was a loyal member of Casa Linda United Methodist Church and later Lake Highlands United Methodist Church.
Jim Young preceded her in death. Golda is survived by Ellen Kemper of Dallas (spouse, Randy Kemper) and Jim Young of Austin (spouse, Vivian Mahlab). She is also survived by three granddaughters and their spouses, two great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who remember her fondly.
She will be interred at Restland in Dallas at a private memorial service.
