Gordon Carlton's Obituary
CARLTON, GORDON born November 28, 1928 in Plant City, FL and passed away March 4, 2013 in Garland, TX. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Charlcie Carlton; son, Steve Carlton; sisters, Ellen Heykens and Hazel Olson. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sharon Garman Carlton of Garland, TX; daughter, Janis and husband, Dean Matthys of Rockwall, TX; daughter-in-law, Vickie Carlton of Benton, AR; grandchildren, Andrew, Lauren and Haley Matthys, Erin and Jacob Carlton, Melanie Knight, Chris Knight and wife, Princess; great granddaughter, Madeline Grace Knight. Gordon was an avid traveler and loved seeing various parts of the world and the U.S. with his wife. He enjoyed dancing, square dancing, being outdoors, cultivating plants and flowers in his yard and enjoying time with his children and grandchildren at his Tyler lakehouse out on his pontoon boat. Gordon has been an active member at First United Methodist Church in Garland, participating in the chancel choir and as a faithful volunteer for the weekly Windows gatherings. Some of his greatest joy in life came from the fellowship, faith and friendships he has developed via the many wonderful and loving Christians in his Koinonia Sunday School class. He also enjoyed various artisan crafts, including woodworking and stained glass creations, leading to teaching various stained glass classes at Richardson Recreation Centers. His stained glass creations are truly treasured by those who were lucky enough to receive one. Family will receive friends from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Friday, March 8, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 9 at First United Methodist Church, 801 W. Avenue B at Glenbrook in Garland, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church in Garland, TX.
