Gordon William Galitz's Obituary
Gordon “Gordy” Galitz, 76, passed away peacefully on March 30th 2021 surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn and his three sons: Bobby and his wife Natalie, Dan and his wife Jennifer, and Dean and his wife Nicole. His seven grandchildren or as he called them, his “seven wonders of the world”: Drew, Ally, Presley, Brady, Cooper, Emma, and Brett Galitz. Additionally, Gordy is survived by his brothers: David, Richard, and his twin brother Keith; and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents: Herbert and Evelyn Galitz.
Gordy was born in San Mateo, CA on March 1, 1945. He graduated in 1963 from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, TX. He was a great athlete and lettered in football his sophomore year of high school. He was also in the concert choir and loved to sing. Following high school, Gordy attended Kilgore Junior College and the University of North Texas. Gordon followed in his father’s and brother Richard’s footsteps and went to work in the elevator business when he was 21 years old. While Gordy would say his family was his greatest accomplishment, he was equally loyal to his Westinghouse/Schindler Elevator family as he was an employee for 45 years. He was well respected for his hard work and knowledge. Gordy was a patriotic man that proudly served our country in the United States Army Reserves. Gordy was a devoted father, an avid skier, and enjoyed playing a good round of golf. He liked cars, sports, traveling, and reading the newspaper with a cup of coffee in his Colonial mug. He was a spiritual man, a long-time member of LakePointe Church, and loved attending church services and lunch with the family afterwards. Following retirement, he enjoyed volunteering as the popcorn man at Baylor Scott and White. His favorite past time was going to his grandchildren’s many events as their biggest fan. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
Gordy’s celebration of life service will be limited to family due to COVID restrictions. To join virtually, the family invites you to visit webcast.funeralvue.com/events/northstar/51578/hash:22125FB89FA85C9B at noon on April 14th.
