Gordon E Speer's Obituary
After living a wonderfully rich life, at the age of 94, Gordon Everett Speer passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones on October 2, 2024, in Dallas Texas.
Gordon was born the youngest of two sons to Jennie and Jim Tom Speer on May 15, 1930, in Houston, Texas. After graduating from Waco High School in 1948, he enlisted in the Navy and was assigned to the USS Massey during the Korean War. His time in the military left an indelible mark on him which he carried with pride his whole life. He enjoyed lifelong camaraderie from friendships forged during his time serving his country. Gordon faithfully attended the yearly Navy reunions and was privileged to participate in Honor Flight for veterans to Washington DC in 2019.
After an honorable discharge from military service, Gordon enrolled in the University of Texas at Austin where he met the love of his life, Marilyn Ferrill; his wife and companion of 67 years. Upon graduation, the couple settled in Houston where he worked in Human Resources for Brown & Root. Gordon enjoyed assisting his fellow workers and his generosity was ever present to family and friends. He was constantly helping those he cared about in addition to hosting dinners, parties and events at his home. His smile and affable nature were infectious.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Marilyn Speer, sons Scott Speer and Todd Speer, daughter in laws Andrea Speer and Joah Speer, and grandchildren Adam, Eric, Anna, Ronin and Arwen. He will be interred in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Veterans Cemetery following a brief military ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Honor Flight www.honorflight.com or the Disabled American Veterans www.help.dav.org.
