Grace Inez McClendon's Obituary
Grace McClendon was born Grace Wilhite on March 26, 1921, to Arbie S. Wilhite and Dora Ellen Karney Wilhite, in Hopkins County, near Sulphur Springs, Texas. She married in April 1941, to Rafe C. Shrode and they were happily married for 62 years. Rafe passed away in March 2003. Then Grace was reacquainted with Robert McClendon, a longtime friend of hers and Rafe's. She knew Bob since 1945 and in 2004 Grace and Bob, as he was known, were married. Bob preceded Grace in death on December 20, 2012.
Grace attended Draughn's Business College and graduated as an accountant. She worked as an accountant for Sears and retired from there after 26 years of faithful service. Her hobby was making quilts and blankets. Her handy work was shared with the orphan's home in Romania as well as many other charity organizations.
Grace loved to travel and in her lifetime traveled around the world and to all 50 states. She shared many of those exciting experiences with her family and friends. She moved to Christian Care Center, on September 13, 2011, and at that time became a member of Saturn Rd Church of Christ and Christian Care Center Church of Christ.
Grace is preceded in death by her parents, Arbie and Dora Wilhite, brother Jerrel Wilhite and sister Evelyn Specht. She is survived by a brother Troy Wilhite and wife Dorothy, of Garland, sister Beulah Godfrey of Sulphur Springs, sister Edith Sanders of Irving and a host of nieces and nephews.
