Gregory L. Simmons' Obituary
SIMMONS, GREGORY L. made his transition from this earthly existence on Saturday evening, November 2, at his Allen residence due to an accidental fall on the stairs. Gregory was born in Lubbock, Texas on September 15, 1955 to Billy and Dell Simmons, and spent his adult life in the Dallas area. Gregory obtained a business degree from North Texas State University, and took early retirement from Hitachi Data Services after 23 years with the firm. He was a Sales Engineer extolling the benefits of data storage and technological services to their major clients including Bank of America. He travelled extensively over the United States in a job he thoroughly enjoyed and made many friends in the computer world. After retirement, Greg was never idle, volunteering each year to help Seniors with their income tax returns, a special volunteer with the Collins County Red Cross on 24 hour call, as well as volunteer hours with many other organizations. In addition, after the death of his dear friend Lynn, he was afforded the opportunity to adopt her son who he had known since the boy was 2 years old. They, of course, had become well acquainted over the years and Greg was elated to become a Dad and take on the responsibility of rearing her son Brandyn. They developed a unique Dad/Son relationship and both were quite compatible in this new union. Under Greg’s tutelage, Brandyn was involved with the Boy Scouts, first year football in Allen, music in school and continues to do very well in the school system. Greg was very family oriented. He loved to take his house boat on Lake Whitney and spend hours relaxing with his sister, Candy Ingall. He enjoyed spending time at his lakehouse at Lake Whitney with family get togethers. Candy and his Dad would join in efforts to grill out on the large rear deck and serve up some delicious meals. Greg especially enjoyed taking his Dad on a whirlwind trip to Europe visiting Frankfort, Florence, Venice, Milan, Southern France, Prague, Switzerland, all in One week. Greg is survived by his sister, Candy Ingall of Lake Whitney; his Dad, Billy Simmons of Waco; his stepdaughter, Sharon Eaton and husband, Robert of Edgewood, Texas; his adopted son, Brandyn Brooks; nieces, nephews, aunts, especially Aunt Helen Bennett, Pat Smith, and many friends and acquaintances too many to name. This sums up Greg’s philosophy I am thankful for Who I really am and Who I am becoming I am thankful that I look for and find the best in everyone and everything in my life including me. I am thankful, Grateful, appreciative and blessed for everyone and everything in my life including me. I am thankful thankful for my Health, Wealth, Prosperity, Abundance, Wisdom and Happiness on every level of my being and for others. I am thankful that more and more very day, I am allowing, experiencing and expressing unconditional Love, Appreciation, and Outrageous Joy for Life for everything and everyone, including me. I am thankful that more and more everyday, I am contributing to the Happiness of others. Service will be held Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 12:30 PM at Restland Memorial Chapel.
