Griffin Daniel Smith's Obituary
SMITH, GRIFFIN DANIEL – Age 99, of Carrollton, Texas passed away peacefully on July 29, 2012 at Madison on Marsh Rehabilitation Center, in Carrollton, Texas. He was born on June 3, 1913 in Hallsville, Texas to his parents, P. D. and Margaret Smith. Griffin married the love of his life, Mary Jane Morrow, on April 8, 1939 at Mount Auburn Christian Church, Dallas. They had 2 children: Beverly Jane and Randall Griffin. He attended Erasmus Hall in Brooklyn, New York and graduated in 1930 with a degree in General Education. He served in the Army for 9 years and served in World War II, earning his Commission and completing Officers’ Candidate School. He was a longtime resident of Carrollton, Texas for 32 years and was largely self-employed, working in the home furnishings, investment, and oil & gas industry for the majority of his career. “Griff” (as he was known by his friends & colleagues) was a member of the Southwestern Roadrunners’ Association (for manufacturers’ reps. in the home furnishing industry) and the Dallas Gun Club. He enjoyed a life-long passion for motorcycling with his son, piloting private aircraft (of which he owned two), flying radio-controlled model airplanes with his grandson, gardening, faithfully completing all types of “honey do” household chores for his dear wife, Mary Jane, and learning about millions of life’s miracles (large and small), and enthusiastically sharing them with his children and grandchildren! Griffin will be remembered by his loving children Beverly – Carrollton, Texas and Randall & his wife Ruth – Forney, Texas. He is also survived by Grandchildren Teresa Lakey-Logan and her husband Michael, Scott Lakey, Jordan Smith, and Elizabeth Smith; by Great-Grandchildren Megan, Michael Jr., Tanner, Hayden, C. J., and Preston; and by Great-Great Grandchildren Emily, Phoenix, Lauren, and Ryleigh. He was predeceased in death by his wife of 53 years, Mary Jane Smith, and by his mother Margaret Garnet (Griffin) Smith & father, P. D. Smith, both of Dallas. Funeral service at 3:00pm, Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
