Gunther Stephen Muethe's Obituary
MUETHE, G. STEPHEN Born 11/25/1928, died 3/22/2007. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, daughter Dona Taylor and grand-children, Karly Elizabeth Taylor, and Lauren Michelle Taylor. Steve was preceeded in death by his son G. Stephen Muethe Jr. He served his country well, first as a member of the VUMS (Veterans of Under-aged Military Service). After 2 years, he was honorably discharged a few days short of being able to join legitimately. He then returned and joined the Navy and spent another 2 years before being discharged. Steve entered civilian life but wasn’t quite ready for it. He did some retail sales and then entered the Merchant Marine Service where he served in the battle of the’ Sea of Japan ‘. After the war ended, he joined the American Fruit Company as a ship engineer. During this time he met and eventually married his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Zeblin. He continued going to sea but after the birth of his son, G. Steven Muethe, Jr. we decided it was time for him to find a job that kept him at home. He was very fortunate in being accepted by the Southco, Inc., a company in Pennsylvania. He stayed there for the rest of his working life. He was happy in his work and received many rewards for it, before retiring. They called him their ‘Pioneer Salesman’. He was first asked to open the Southwest territory for their products, which he did successfully. When they decided it was time to ‘go international’, he and his wife relocated to Germany, and in the six years he was there, he was successful in opening the markets in England, France, Italy, Israel , Denmark and Austria. Steve enjoyed over ten years of retirement. He loved to travel and loved his family, most especially his daughter Dona and his grand-daughters Karly Elizabeth and Lauren Michelle.
