Gussie Alfreda Franks' Obituary
Gussie Alfreda Franks, 95, passed peacefully from this life Saturday, May 28, 2016 with her loving family at her side. Services will be held private upon the request of the family. A Memorial service will be held at a later date. Gussie Alfreda Franks was born February 22, 1921, in Sulpher Springs, TX to Gus and Lora Godwin. She was known by family and friends as “Fede”. Gussie worked for 46 years at Southwestern Bell (now AT&T) and retired in 1986. Gussie Alfreda Franks spent the last decades of her life at the Greenway Christian Retirement Center in Mesquite, TX near her son and daughter-in-law. Gussie made many friends there among the residents and staff, and was assisted in her daily life activities by Elva Chairezd. Gussie enjoyed life at Greenway, and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Paul Franks; daughter, LaVaughn Jo Brown; brothers, Elzyy Alfred (Fede’s twin), Jessie Talmage, Shephard Othelon, Billy Mike and sister, LaVeda Pearl. Alfreda is survived by her daughter, Jean Paulette Taylor; son, James Ray Franks and wife, Jo Ann; grandchildren, Jean, Tommy, Ed, Jim, Jesika, Lynn, and Bryan; and by numerous great-grandchildren. Fede’s surviving relatives in Sulpher Springs, TX include grandnieces, Holly, and Donna. Fede wanted to give special thanks to Edna Sue Peugh who provided love and care to her sister in-law, Mary Godwin, during Mary’s last years. Many thanks to Brother Dan Carroll who provided spriritual guidance, counsel, and friendship, not only to Fede, but also to her extended family. Fede considered and named Brother Dan “The Most Wonderful Pastor and Friend there ever was.” In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Eastridge Park Christian Church, 2701 N. Town E. Blvd., Mesquite, Tx 75150.
