Gwendolyn "Jo" Barton's Obituary
Mrs. Gwendolyn “Jo” Barton of Garland Texas, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, in Garland Texas. She was born on May 1,1941 in Quitman Texas to Cecil B. and Connie Grice James. She married Robert “Bob” Lee Abney, the father of her son Christopher “Chris” Lee Abney, on June 1, 1962. She later was married to Floyd Barton on March 15, 1983.
Jo loved crafts and needlework and thought of her projects often even when she could no longer crochet or embroider. She also loved to travel and enjoyed camping out in the back of their pickup. She loved company and participating in helping others everywhere she went.
She is remembered for some of the special things she loved to bake such as angel biscuits and apricot turnovers and special and sometimes unusual meals she made to make her family happy such as burritos for Christmas Dinner.
Jo is preceded in death by her husband Floyd E. Barton, her sisters Frances “Genoise” Chavez and Patsy Buchanan and her parents Cecil and Connie James. She is survived by her first husband Robert “Bob” Lee Abney, her son Chris Abney, and his wife Betsy Abney, her two brothers Jackie James and Kenneth James and his wife Margaret James.
Jo leaves her loved ones with unforgettable memories and loving stories. She will be sincerely missed by her loving family, devoted friends, and all the wonderful individuals who knew and loved her.
