Gwendolyn Thornton Brown's Obituary
Gwendolyn Thornton Brown, loving Mother, Grandma, Great Grandma and Great-Great-Grandma, passed into God’s hands on March 13, 2017 at the age of 97. Gwen was born in Childress, Texas on November 3,1919 to Lee and G. Bernice Thornton. She graduated from the Texas School for the Deaf in 1940 where she met the love of her life, James Homer Brown. They were married on February 22,1941 in Dallas, TX. Her beloved husband, was killed on March 31,1943 in a military accident and she returned to the Dallas, TX area to be closer to family. Cherished for her beautiful smile, unconditional love of her family and her infectious giggle, Gwen was an inspiration to her family and many friends. She loved spending time with her family & friends, especially, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included traveling, reading novels, and needle pointing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernice Key & Lee Thornton, her brother, Lee R. Thornton. She is survived by her daughter & son-in-law,, Judy and Jerry McFarland of Bryan, TX; granddaughter, Becki and her husband, Mike Minihan of Wylie, TX; and grandson, Jim McFarland and his wife, Megan of Allen, TX; seven grandchildren, Kevin Harrell, Kyle Harrell, Erin Brown, Jeremy Minihan, Josh Minihan, Lauren McFarland, Kaitlyn McFarland and five great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Steven J. Thornton. Inurnment will be at 2:00 pm, April 7, 2017 at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Texas School for the Deaf Foundation, 1102 S. Congress Ave., Austin, TX 78704 Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
