H Glyn Jordan's Obituary
Dr. H. Glyn Jordan, Ph.D. passed away peacefully on May 1, 2015. He was born November 13, 1937 in a farmhouse in Munger, Texas. He grew up in Hubbard, Texas where he met his future wife, Ann Manning, when she was in second grade and he was in the third grade. They were married for 55 years. Glyn was a varsity athlete including halfback on the Hubbard High School football team. He graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Subsequently, he earned an MBA from SMU and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Dallas. While in college, Glyn was tapped to be a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the national business honor society, Sigma Iota Epsilon, a management honorary fraternity and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Glyn was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In his first troop assignment he was the Allied Officer’s Liaison at Fort Belvoir, VA. He later served on the staff of the 519th Maintenance Battalion in Dallas, TX as the Operations Officer (S-3) with the rank of Captain. Glyn had over fifty years of experience in information systems, including management, marketing, and systems engineering. Initially, he worked for Collins Radio, IBM and Cutler-Williams, Inc. He founded three small businesses, J-4 Company, MOD-2000 and Strategic Staff Services. As a professor he taught at SMU, TCU, University of Dallas, University of Texas at Dallas, Amberton University and University of Phoenix. He was the published author of “Getting Jobs.” Glyn was active in volunteer work at SCORE (a nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses), North Dallas Shared Ministries, Highland Park United Methodist Church, North Dallas Chamber of Commerce and the Military Order of World Wars. Glyn and his wife were avid travelers. They visited all 50 states and each of the seven continents. Glyn was preceded in death by his father, Leroy William Jordan, mother, Ruth Milburn Jordan, and brother Charles Jordan. In addition to his loving wife Ann, Glyn is survived by his son Andrew Manning Jordan and daughter Amy Glyn Gray. Additionally, he is survived by his daughter-in-law Amanda Wheeler Jordan and son-in-law Phillip Lee Gray. Glyn, ‘Doc,’ was especially proud of his five grandchildren, Jordan Gray, Alicia Gray, Dashiell Jordan, Manning Jordan and Sarah (Sally) Gray. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Kilgo, Fred Ligon, John Meagher, John Mecom, Pat Roach, and James Wheeler. A memorial service will be held at Highland Park United Methodist Church on Monday, May 11 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to North Dallas Shared Ministries, 2875 Merrell Road, Dallas, TX 75229 or First Light Sunday School Class at Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, TX 75205. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
