Dr. Hal C. Douglass Jr.'s Obituary
Hal C. Douglass, Jr., M.D., 79, of Dallas, Texas peacefully passed away in the early morning of Saturday, May 12, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family. Born September 19, 1932 in Mercedes, Texas, he was the son of Dr. Hal C. Douglass, Sr. and Edythe Carolyn Potts Douglass of Fort Worth, Texas. He was preceded in death by both his parents and younger sister, Anne Carolyn Douglass Dow. Dr. Douglass graduated from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas and then received a BA in Biology from Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas. Like his father, he also attended and graduated from Tulane School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. He then served his internship at the Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He went on to serve his residency in Internal Medicine in Houston, Texas at the Baylor College of Medicine and the VA Hospital of Houston. He married Jeanine Kenyon of Fort Worth and together they had four children. After completing his residency, Dr. Douglass joined the United States Public Health Service where his first assignment was to serve as Chief of Medicine for the Indian Division on the Navajo Reservation in Fort Defiance, AZ. He later transferred to the USPHS Marine Division in Galveston, Texas, where he was the Chief of Medicine and was also a clinical instructor of medicine at the University of Texas School of Medicine in Galveston. In 1964, he and his wife moved to Dallas where he was on the staffs of St. Paul Hospital, Baylor Hospital and Medical Arts Hospital, where he served as President of the Medical Staff in 1970. He then was one of three investors responsible for the purchase and relocation of the Medical Arts Hospital in downtown Dallas to a new location in the Southwest Medical Center in Dallas. He loved practicing medicine and had a solo practice in the Medical Arts Professional Building in Dallas, TX for 31 years. He was a member of the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, Dallas Academy of Internal Medicine, Internists’ Club of Dallas, American In-Vitro Allergy & Immunology Society, National Rehabilitation Association and was Treasurer of the Dallas County Medical Society. He was also a member of Phi Chi International Medical Fraternity and a long standing member in the national register of Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals. Dr. Douglass grew up in Ft. Worth across the street from a golf course and was known to tee off from his front yard. He proudly told stories of how his father played golf with his good friend, golf professional, Bobby Jones. Dr. Douglass spent years playing golf at the Colonial Golf Course in Ft. Worth and then later years teaching his own talented son on the fairways of Royal Oaks Country Club and Bent Tree Country Club. He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Jeanine Kenyon Douglass, his daughter Carol Douglass Norwood and husband, Ben of Dallas, daughter Kay Anne Douglass of Los Angeles, CA, daughter Janna Douglass Russell and husband, Alan of Dallas and son Hal Craig Douglass, III of Dallas. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Morgan Elizabeth Norwood, Hal Craig Douglass, IV, Jason Hogan Douglass and Miles Alan Russell. A memorial service will be on Saturday, May 19 at 3:00 PM at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland at 9220 Restland Road, Dallas, Texas. 75243.
