Jenni, I did not know Hannah's middle name was Joy, but she certainly lived up to it. She definitely brought joy to my life. I remember going to her house several times and she would play piano so we could sing together or sometimes solo - sweet, sweet memories for me and I hope for her as well. I just found out today (3.12.20) that she went Home. I had a funny feeling that she may have gone Home, so I checked on the Internet... I've cried lots of tears but I know there is a lot more Joy in Heaven now... I'm sending lots of love to you and your family as I am sure this is a very difficult time for all of you. I'm praying too.

Jenni, I am so sorry to hear of your mother’s passing. I heard her memorial service was God honoring and Spirit Filled. I also wanted you to know that you are your mother’s daughter. You were always different in high school…a girl who lived for Christ and didn’t care who knew it. You are her legacy. I wasn’t a believer then but you planted the seeds that would lead to my accepting Jesus Christ as my Savior at the age of 28. Jesus is everything to me and because He was everything to your Mama she is now with Him for all eternity. You and your family will be in my prayers for comfort and peace, especially for your precious Father. God Bless you all.

Duets. That’s what we remember. Not the ones on record albums. Or sung to grand orchestral accompaniment. Here’s what we mean. The Chapel Choir has arrived at a church in some city. This is in the days of choir tours on Greyhound buses. Of cold chicken-neck lunches at the Holiday Inn. Days of crew-cuts for the guys and bouffant hairdos for the girls, and hairspray is still legal. Tommy Nance, or one of his clones, has set up the sound system and tested the microphones, and we have figured out how to cram 150 teenagers into a choir loft made for thirty-five. And we have rehearsed “Go to Dark Gethsamene” so many times that we can find our way there without a flashlight. In the time remaining before we put on those stylish uniforms and eat supper – pot luck in the church basement – we relax a little, lounging around in the pews. Somebody, probably Jane May, says, “Lee Roy, you and Hannah sing something for us.” And so you do. Standing there in the aisle of the church sanctuary, holding hands, you sing. A cappela. A duet. “King Jesus” is the song. We watch you and we listen and we know we’ll never hear anything better for the rest of our lives. You sing another and heaven comes down. And glory really does fill out souls. Duets. That’s what we remember. We can still hear you singing.-Steve Porter

The first time I met Hannah Joy Till was in the summer when Robert and I went to their house to swim. I was not expecting to meet her so I was dressed in an old shirt & cut-off shorts to cover up my swim suit….not what I would have wanted to wear to meet my boyfriend’s mother! I was very embarrassed but in true Hannah Joy Till form I was met with a welcoming hello, a big hug and an ‘I’m so glad to finally meet you’! I’ll never forget her immediate acceptance of me! I knew very little of Robert’s family before I met him but soon found out that this was truly a remarkable character trait that his mother possessed and modeled for her family. As time passed I realized that her love for people was based on her love and commitment to Jesus. It seemed to me that her goal was to share the love of Jesus with all that she came in contact with! She ask God to help her to do that and He did in a big way through her life, not just for me but for so many others.
After Robert and I married she told me that I was like a daughter that she carried under her heart! I was so grateful that God had given me a second ‘mother’ not just a mother in law. God knew that I needed someone who understood a life in ministry. I am grateful, every day, for being able to watch and learn from a life, truly surrendered that sought to see others as Jesus saw them… precious and priceless.I love you Mammy, my Mother-in-love
