Harold A. Hull's Obituary
We are sad to announce that Harold A. Hull, of Plano, TX, passed away on April 16, 2023.
A twin, Harold was born on August 3, 1931, the youngest of four children to the late Robert Leslie and Vera Johnson Hull. Born in Smethport, PA, a rural community in the Appalachian plateau, his formative years included the depression and WWII¾a time which instilled principles of frugality, ambition, and patriotism. His parents owned Hull’s Grocery on Main Street, where Harold earned the nickname Butch.
Harold graduated from Smethport High School as valedictorian in 1949 and went on to serve as a Morse Code Operator in the Coast Guard (1951-1954) during the Korean War, serving in the Pacific and Far East, both aboard a destroyer at the shore. He married his high school girlfriend; Mary Catherine Alfieri and they enjoyed 56 years together until Mary’s passing in 2012.
With the help of the GI Bill, Harold earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1958 from Upsala College in East Orange, NJ, and went on to earn his CPA in 1961. As a business leader, Harold had a successful career in various financial and general management positions extending over 44 years, the last 30 with Amerace, Corp. Harold retired to Cedar Creek Lake and subsequently Dallas, TX. During retirement, HAH and MAH traveled extensively throughout the U.S., the Caribbean, the Pacific, and Europe, including several cruises worldwide. He also loved to play Blackjack in old-school Las Vegas.
Harold is survived by his daughters Ingrid Kopf (and husband Richard Kopf); Susan Last (and husband Lee Last); sons Michael Hull (and wife Yoleth), Dr. Robert Hull; and nephew Scott Hull.
Fondly called Granddaddy, Harold has four adoring grandchildren who will miss him dearly: Cassie Eyster, Kristin Rice, Kevin Kopf, and Kali Kopf. He also has two great-grandchildren: Zoey Lynn Eyster and Elliott James Rice.
Harold was the last of his generation, and, along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Howard A. Hull (twin), Robert J. Hull, and sister Dorothy E. Hull. Harold will be placed in his final resting place, where the family will have a private graveside service, on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 2:00pm at Restland Memorial Park where he will join his wife of 56 years, Mary Alfieri.
Funeral arrangements have been faithfully entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
