Norris, Harold Edward's Obituary
Harold Edward Norris passed away peacefully into the arms of his Savior on Friday, August 23, 2024, at the age of 89 years. Because he had a saving faith in Jesus Christ, it brings his family great joy to know he is with his Heavenly Father and they will see him again.
Harold was born in Red River County, Texas on October 15, 1934, the fourth of five children born to Vernon Ray Norris, Sr. and Mary Kathleen Williamson Norris. Harold grew up in Clarksville, Texas and graduated from Clarksville High School in 1952. In 1957, he graduated from North Texas State University with a BS degree. After completing graduate courses at Southern Methodist University, he became a Certified Public Accountant. His work career included Centex Corporation in Dallas, where he served in various positions including Controller and Financial Vice President. In 1988 he joined the administration of Dallas Baptist University where he served as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Financial Affairs. Harold loved his work at Dallas Baptist University and his colleagues. In addition to his duties as a member of the administration, he taught in the College of Business and in the Masters of Higher Education program. Harold was honored by Dallas Baptist University with an honorary Doctorate in 1995.
When Harold was 15 years old he met the love of his life, Mary Kathryn Roberts. They dated through high school and married in Clarksville on January 28, 1956. They enjoyed a wonderful life together for almost 65 years before she passed away in December, 2020. They were the very best of friends. Together, Harold and Mary Kathryn provided a happy and stable home for their children.
From a young age, Harold was a determined, diligent and discerning man of integrity. His noble character and work ethic has provided a model for his children and grandchildren. His steadfast faith in his Lord Jesus Christ was the foundation upon which his character rested and influenced all he did. His wisdom and discernment created the kind of home that nurtured that faith for his children as well. He has consistently distinguished himself as a loving, humble and completely selfless person throughout his life. His family holds him in the highest regard and with deep love.
Harold is survived by his three children: daughter Lisa Flagg and husband Brett, of Frisco, TX; son Scott Norris and wife Mary Jane, of Bulverde, Texas; and daughter Jennifer Richardson and husband Gene, of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Ashely Langdon (Wendell); Baker Flagg (Brittney); Tyler Taylor (Josh); Haley Flagg; Caroline Taylor (Jack); Daniel Richardson and Kathryn Richardson; and four great-grandchildren: Ainsley and Soren Taylor; and Walker and Kendell Langdon.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 2 at 10:30 am in Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Harold Norris Endowed Baseball Scholarship Fund, Dallas Baptist University, 3000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas, 75211
