Harold Lee Ratcliff's Obituary
Harold Lee Ratcliff, 90, of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Just a few weeks earlier, he joyfully celebrated his 90th birthday, a milestone reflecting a life well lived and deeply loved.
Born on September 9, 1935, in Dallas, Texas, to Albert and Jonnie Bell Ratcliff, Harold was the second of three children. From an early age, he was known for his quiet nature, kindness, dependability, and steady spirit- qualities that would define his life and legacy.
Harold graduated from the University of North Texas in 1958, earning a degree in accounting and later becoming a Certified Public Accountant. He began his career in accounting, working for a number of different companies. He went on to become the business manager for the Dallas Texans Football Club, which later became the Kansas City Chiefs. He was asked to move to Kansas City with the team, but chose to stay in Dallas near family. Pursuing his longtime dream, he started his own private practice in public accounting. He faithfully served his clients with integrity and care for more than 65 years, right up until his passing. He was passionate about his work and the friendships he developed over the years.
On December 13, 1958, Harold married the love of his life, Laura “Mickie” Ratcliff. Together they built a marriage grounded in faith, devotion, and family. They were blessed with two children, Michael Lee Ratcliff and Lisa Beth Ratcliff Ray, who were his greatest joy. Harold’s life was centered on his family- he was a constant, calming presence, always patient and deeply devoted as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
A man of faith, Harold was a longtime member and deacon of First Baptist Church of Dallas, where he faithfully served for decades. He was know for his quiet leadership, wisdom, and humility. He was a member of the Pathfinders Bible Class and served on the finance committee of the church. He also served on the board at Trinity Christian Academy.
Beyond his professional and spiritual life, Harold had a lifelong love for Dallas sports. He rarely missed a Texas Rangers game and cherished attending both Rangers and Dallas Mavericks games with his family, forming treasured family memories.
Harold was preceded in death by his father, Albert Lee Ratcliff; mother, Jonnie Bell Ratcliff; sister, Peggy Ann Hooten; and his beloved son, Michael Lee Ratcliff. He is survived by his devoted wife, Laura “Mickie” Ratcliff; his loving daughter, Lisa Ratcliff Ray; granddaughter, Hannah Ray Chaffin and husband Clint; grandson John Davis Ray and wife Melissa; granddaughter Madeline Ratcliff Bradley and husband Ben; grandson Jackson Scott Ratcliff; great grandson William John Chaffin; great granddaughter Emma Grace Chaffin; great grandson Liam James Bradley; and sister, Linda Ratcliff Cunningham.
Harold will be remembered for his unwavering faith, steadfast love, and the quiet strength that made him a rock for his family and community. His presence will be deeply missed, but his influence will live on in the many lives he touched.
A memorial service celebrating Harold’s life will be held in the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 10:30 am. All who were touched by Harold’s life and legacy are warmly invited to attend.
