Reverend Harold Arvid Thorson's Obituary
Rev. H. Arvid Thorson, of Dallas, TX, died May 14, 2019, at the age of 90. Arvid was born July 31, 1928, Janesville, WI, to the Reverend T.C. and Vida Estelle Thorson. “Arv” was his beloved grandchildren’s “Poppy” and “Papa.”Arvid was a graduate of Luther College in Decorah, IA and Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN. As a Lutheran minister, he was a man of God with an enduring faith, serving congregations throughout 66 years of ordained ministry. Churches he served were in Chicago, Cleveland, Orlando, New Orleans, Dallas and Odessa, TX. He was married to the love of his life, Gloria, for 63 years. He loved spending time with his family, reading, learning, playing the piano, enjoying all forms of music, including jazz and big band.He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria; son-in-law, Paul Devine; brother, Nordahl Thorson; his sisters, Gudrun Harr and Vida Thorson.Arvid is survived by his loving sons, Tim Thorson and his wife, Cecilia, Jack Thorson and his wife, Charlene; daughters, Maren Devine, Krista Dunham and her husband, Ron; grandchildren, Eric, Katy, Anna, Haley, Madeline and Charlotte; brother-in-law, Reverend Gerald Melby and his wife, Barbara; many nieces, nephews and loving friends.The example he gave of a Godly life will endure for many generations. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, 10101 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, TX 75238.A memorial service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 11:00 AM with a reception immediately following at another location.
