Harold J. Welch's Obituary
Harold Welch was born on July 12, 1921 in Providence, Rhode Island to Frederick and Mary Welch. Harold had a younger brother, James Welch, deceased 2007. Harold was a devoted husband and married in 1951 to Mary Harrington until her passing in 1997. He is survived by 4 children, Joan Montjoy of Plano, Texas, Thomas Welch of Arlington, Virginia, Linda Gallagher of Mission, Kansas, and Jennifer Rubino of Fort Worth, Texas. Harold is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Kevin and Eric Welch, Michael and Stephanie Gallagher, and Tanner, Lindsay and Tristan Rubino. Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1942 – 1946 at the Pentagon on the staff for General George C. Marshall. He served again from 1950 – 1972 at posts in Japan, New York, Korea, The Pentagon, Carlisle Barracks, Okinawa, and in Dallas, Texas where he retired at the rank of Sergeant Major. He spent the last 40 years of his life living in Richardson, Texas where he worked as a mail man for the U.S. Postal Service after retiring from the Army. Harold enjoyed playing golf, watching movies and sports, staying in touch with family and friends and worked the New York Times crossword puzzle to completion every day. He had a dry wit and could find the humor in the retelling of any story. He was a very generous man and devoted to the welfare of all his children and grandchildren and will be missed by other family and friends. He will be remembered and celebrated through many fond memories created over the course of his 89 years.
