Harris Edwin Cohen's Obituary
COHEN, Harris Edwin, 93, passed away peacefully on December 26, in his home surrounded in love by his family. Harris was born July 31, 1923, in Scarborough, Maine. He is survived by Evelyn F. Cohen (Stiman) his beloved wife of 68 years; his 3 children, Susan Cohen, Bonnie Cohen Levy and her husband Jorge A Levy, and Pamela Cohen; his siblings, Selma Cummings, Lucille Lorrain, Gerald Cohen and many nieces and nephews. Harris, as a young man was a terrific athlete who loved track and field and won several awards while attending Scarborough High School. After graduating High School he joined the Army and served 4 years in World War II as a Staff Sergeant. When he returned home from the war he met and married Evelyn F. Stiman and started his family. Harris was a humble, loving husband, devoted father, and all around gentle man. He loved his country, his family, sports, woodworking, painting and gardening. Harris was most well known as the proprietor of Central Fresh Meat Packaging Company in the Old Port section of Portland, Maine. His generosity and kindness were blessings and appreciated by so many. He is predeceased by his mother and father, Morris and Lillian Cohen, brothers, Robert, Donald, and sister Arlene, sisters-in law, Fritzi and Dorothy Cohen and brother in law, Bernie Rosenberg. A private family gathering was held at his home in Garland, Texas. Harris will be long remembered as a loving son, brother, soldier, husband, businessman, father, uncle, and friend to many from the Greatest Generation, and it will be his daughters’ privilege to carry on his legacy. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
