Harrold Curtis Grogan's Obituary
GROGAN, HARROLD CURTIS, 93 years old, died July 16, 2014 in his home city of Dallas, Texas. He is survived by Mary Jo, his loving wife of 63 years and their children, Gail Grogan Vinson and her husband, Ed, Dan Grogan and his wife, Molly, and Tim Grogan and his wife, Penny. “Grindaddy” is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was greatly loved and admired for being a humble gentleman, for his natural wit and humor, and for having an extraordinarily beautiful voice that all who heard, never will forget. Harrold grew up in the neighborhood of Oakcliff, and served as a Marine pilot, flying SBD dive bombers in the Pacific during WWII. He graduated from North Texas State College and enjoyed a career in the insurance business. Harrold shined as a solo vocalist on the big band stages of the 1940s, and continued performing as a professional group singer and jingle singer. He was a charter member of the well-known Vocal Majority and also sang bass as part of his church choir. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
