Harry Green's Obituary
Harry Green, 93, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2017, in Plano, Texas, after a courageous fight against Alzheimer’s. Harry was born in Dallas on December 6, 1923, to Harry and Gladys Meyers Green. He graduated from Dallas’ Adamson High School and went on to attend Southern Methodist University. During World War II, Harry was a B-24 airplane commander. While in Kearney, Nebraska for training, he met the young college co-ed who would become the love of his life, Annabelle Gilley. They were married on June 21, 1945, in Houston. During a 36-year career in the oil and gas industry, Harry held various executive positions with Republic Natural Gas, Mobil Oil, Texas Pacific Oil and Gas, and Sun Production Company. Among his many assignments was a post to Tripoli, Libya, where the family lived for two years in the 1960’s. They enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. In 1973, while employed with Texas Pacific, Harry was appointed to membership in the National Petroleum Council in Washington, D. C. Harry retired in 1983, but stayed active playing golf and volunteering with the United Way of Greater Dallas. He was a devoted husband, a wonderful father and grandfather, and a loyal friend. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Annabelle; a sister Dorothy Wright, and a son-in-law Robert “Butch” Hansen. He is survived by his daughter Justin Hansen of McKinney, son Harry “Bud” Green III and wife Lou of Parker, and son Richard Green and wife Gail of Garland. Grandchildren include Michelle Clark of Brazoria, Tiffany (Mark) Laffitte of Hendersonville, TN, Mitch Green of Garland, Brent Green of Lacey, WA, and Paige Green of Dallas. A private service is scheduled in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
