Harry Lee Selman's Obituary
Harry Lee Selman, 83, of Rockwall, Texas, left while we were sleeping in the early morning hours of, January 14th, 2019, at his home surrounded by close family.A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 17, 2019 at First Baptist Rockwall, 610 S Goliad | Rockwall, Texas | 75087. A military burial will follow soon after at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243. Friends may visit from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Wednesday at Restland Funeral Home. Harry was born August 30, 1935 in Dallas, Texas, to Bobby Sylvester and Mary Evelyn (Burns) Selman. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1952. In high school he was an All-American Football player. Upon graduation he served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged January 1960. On September 25, 1965, he married his beautiful wife, Margaret Rose Wilkey in Dallas, Texas. They were married for 53 years and together raised a vast family who loved him dearly. Harry was a hard working Elevator Man for Montgomery Elevators, Otis Elevators for 20+ years and strong Union Man finishing his career as a Business Agent for IUEC Local 21, retiring in 1993. After retiring from IUEC the real fun began. Harry was a life-long car enthusiast and fierce competitor. He spent many hours working alongside his grand-son Billy Gatlin building countless hot-rod motors. Many years at the race track watching his son and grandson race. He was working on his final motor for his prized 1931 Tudor Sedan Model A, just a few days prior to his passing. On Sunday’s he spent time in prayer, worship and fellowship. Harry loved Jesus. There was zero doubt in his mind or heart of his salvation. Harry spent a life time caring for his family. He made us all promise. “to take care of your momma.” If you needed him, you called him, he was there. His legacy will be one of leadership, loyalty and family. He was a role model to many men.Harry is survived by his wife Margaret Rose Selman of Rockwall, Texas his two daughters, Janna Dee Selman of Dallas, Texas, Andrea Denise Selman-Bass of Forney Texas and step-daughter Dana Gatlin Aubrey, Rockwall. 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren, along with countless family and friends. Harry is preceded in death by his parents Bobby Sylvester and Evelyn Selman. His beautiful daughter Janette Selman Small, his stepson Steven Kent Gatlin, Vicki Lynn Gatlin and grandson Joshua Paul Jordan.
