Harvey Esther Roberts' Obituary
Harvey Esther Roberts was born in Austin, Texas on February 7, 1929 to Evelyn Shelby and Harvey Lee Moore. She was their only child. She accepted her Lord and Savior at an early age at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Austin.
She attended elementary through high school in the Austin Independent School District. After graduating from high school, Harvey Esther attended Tillotson College (Now Huston-Tillotson University) where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. While she was there she was initiated into the Alpha Nu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She was also one of the founding members of the Eta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Sorority, Inc. in Lubbock, Texas. She served as the treasurer and continued her service and love for her Sorority. In 2017, she was honored to become a Golden Member in the Eta Delta Omega Chapter.
In June of 1950, she married the love of her life, Roy Wardell Roberts. They were happily married for 45 years until his death. Their life together started in Frederick, Oklahoma before moving to Lubbock in 1952. Through their union three children were born; Michael, Joey and Royla.
She was an elementary school teacher in the Lubbock Independent School District for 29 years. She touched the lives of many students in her classroom as well as the students that were in the Dunbar High School Band where her husband was the band director for many years. She taught at Ella Iles, Wheatley and Bayless Elementary Schools and was truly loved by her students.
Harvey Esther was a longtime member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church in Lubbock, Texas before relocating to Parker, Texas to live with her daughter. While at Mount Vernon she was a faithful Communion Steward and a member of the United Methodist Women. While living in Parker, she joined Hamilton Park United Methodist Church were she enjoyed the Ellen Wilson Sunday School Class and the Mature Adults Ministry. They welcomed her with open arms. She thoroughly enjoyed being a part of that ministry and class until her health started to decline.
Her husband Roy W. Roberts and sons Roy W. Roberts, Jr. and Michael E. Roberts preceded her in death. Harvey Esther, lovingly nicknamed "Bo" leaves to cherish her memory sons Ramon D. Roberts (Vera) of Inglewood, California, Joey W. Roberts, (Phil) of Seattle, Washington and daughter Royla Gossett (Robert) of Parker, Texas, her adored ten grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, her nephews, nieces and their families, and a host of relatives and friends. She will always be remembered as a loving, caring, fun loving, and giving lady.
She will also be remembered as a loving wife, sister-in-law, aunt, mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family who loved her dearly.
