Hattie E. Jenkins
Hattie Ellen (Jones) Jenkins gracefully and peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on April 23, 2025. She was born in Colorado City, Texas, to Milford and Dollie (Gossett) Jones on October 25, 1931. She accepted Christ at an early age, while attending Mount Zion Church in Colorado City, along with her siblings, the late Mildred (Jones) Pierce and the late Aaron Edgar Jones.
Hattie graduated from Wallace High School in Colorado City, Texas. She attended college at Arizona State University in Phoenix, Arizona and was invited to participate and pledge the Beta Theta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
She received her certification as a Licensed Vocational Nurse and journeyed through her nursing career at St. Paul Hospital, Baylor Hospital, and Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She really loved caring for babies and worked in the maternity unit. Her nursing spanned thirty plus years. After retirement, she continued to work at a local community children’s daycare and provided private home care for senior patients.
Hattie met and married Freddie Bertram Jenkins, Sr. from Ft. Worth, Texas and moved into the Hamilton Park Community located in Dallas, Texas. To this union, four sons were born. Freddie Jr., Byron Sr., Bruce and Barry.
Hattie was a faithful member of Hamilton Park United Methodist Church under the leaderships of Dr. Zan Wesley Holmes, Jr., Dr. Luther Henry, Sr., and Dr. Henry Masters, Sr. In 1989, Hattie joined St. Luke Community United Methodist Church, under the leadership of Dr. Zan Holmes, and remained a faithful member until her demise. She served on the Communion Board at both Hamilton Park UMC and St. Luke Community UMC, the Women’s Prayer Fellowship, the Keenagers’ Fellowship, and various discipleship groups and community outreach programs. Hattie shared her wisdom and loved to encourage the next generation. In her pastime, you could find her in the yard gardening on a regular basis. She occasionally traveled with church groups, friends and family.
Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband, granddaughter, Shanbriel Jenkins, and two nephews, Kelly Walker and Gregory Pierce.
Her survivors include: Four sons — Freddie (Lorraine) Jenkins, Jr.; Byron Jenkins, Sr.; Bruce (Sharolyn) Jenkins, Barry (Bridgette) Jenkins.
Eight grandchildren — Byron Jenkins, Jr., Quinc Jenkins, Makeva Jenkins, Shaterra Davis, Chris Jenkins, Courtney Jenkins, Bayleigh Jenkins, and Blaize Jenkins.
One nephew — Joe Michael (Jocelyn Gail) Pierce of Waco, Texas and a great niece, Jessica Pierce of College Station, Texas.
Also, a host of great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends.
