Hazel Elizabeth Howell's Obituary
Elizabeth (Mimi) Davis Howell passed away October 31st, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 16, 1916, in Tullos, Louisiana, to parents H.W. and Emma Davis. Her beloved husband of 70 years, Robert L. (Bob) Howell, passed away on December 15, 2010. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and also siblings Wayne W. Davis, Ruth Whatley and H.W. Davis, Jr. She is survived by daughter Ann Smith and husband Rev. Dr. Bart Smith of Richardson, Texas; granddaughter Amy Doar and her husband Jeff, and great grandson Robert Barton Doar of Allen, Texas; as well as nephews David Davis, Larry Whatley, Gary Whatley and nieces Rebecca Head, Jean Cooper and Barbara Crum. Elizabeth met her future husband Bob in the Marvin United Methodist Church youth group while she was attending Tyler Commercial College. She worked in the oil and gas industry for several years and was a Princess in the Tyler Rose Festival Court of 1937. Elizabeth was a homemaker and loving mother, devoted grandmother and great grandmother. She was a superb cook and loved entertaining. She and Bob doted on their granddaughter and on their great grandson. Elizabeth loved traveling with Amy and Bob, but most of all she loved shopping for shoes with Amy. The family wishes to express gratitude to Reachout Home Care for enabling Elizabeth to end her days at home under the loving care of Helga Mayfield, Johana Mbela, Shirley Cooks and Esther Njoroge with special thanks to J.B. Wage, Mary O’Hagan, RN, Mabel Chase, RN and Sue Smith (Haircuts for Friends). The family also extends its thanks to Faith Presbyterian Hospice for comfort and care in Elizabeth’s last days. Memorial Services will be Thursday, November 3rd at 3:00 PM in Wildwood Chapel at Restland Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Justin Tull, Rev. Dr. Bart Smith and Rev. Milton Guttierrez officiating.
