Hazel Valeria Late's Obituary
LATE, HAZEL VALERIA Passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at her home in Dallas. Val was born July 17, 1914 in Honey Grove, Texas to James Albert Jones and Mattie Lee Lucy Wiley Jones. She graduated from Honey Grove High School and then moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she graduated from Tulsa Business College in 1934. She married Frank Marr Late in Tulsa on October 15, 1936. They were married for 66 years before Mr. Late’s death in 2002. During their marriage they lived in Claremore, Oklahoma and San Angelo, Texas prior to moving to Dallas in 1970. While in Dallas, Val particularly enjoyed her many years of service as a member of the Executive Board of SMU’s Dedman College. She was also a member of Park Cities Baptist Church, the Preston Hollow Reviewers and Brook Hollow County Club where she was active in the Women’s Golf Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and three siblings. She is survived by her daughter Jan Late McMillan and husband, Richard, of Midland, Texas, four grandchildren, Kirstin Gillespie and husband Adam of Basalt, Colorado, Lindsay Powers and husband, Harris of Greenwood, Mississippi, Richard McMillan II and wife, Larkin of Forth Worth, Texas and Emily McMillan of Cambridge, Massachusetts, five great-grandchildren, Lilly Gillespie, Arbor Gillespie, Charles Powers, James Powers and Sarah Mitchell McMillan, and one sister, Peggy Stonecipher of Mannford, Oklahoma. Following a family burial service, a memorial celebrating Val’s life will be held at Park Cities Baptist Church in the Ellis Chapel, 3933 NW Parkway, with Dr. Jack Martin, Minister of Pastoral Care, officiating at 1:30 p.m. on May 18, 2011, with a reception following in the Ellis Parlor. Val’s family would like to acknowledge and thank the wonderful caregivers who supported her in her last years: Verdell Moore, Rolanda Wilson, Leslie Blankenship, Addie Carroll, Brenda Dodd, Beverly Selman, Wynona Moore, Faye Stephens, Rev.
