Hazel B. Lewis' Obituary
Hazel Breeland Lewis passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2009. She was born June 13, 1905 in Tylertown, Mississippi to Florence and A.Z. Breeland. At age 21 Hazel moved to Dallas, where she attended Kidd Key College (SMU) and later worked for several years at Lone Star Gas Company. Hazel was preceded in death in 1997 by her husband of 62 years, Roland Mack Lewis. She is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, R. Mack Lewis, Jr. of Dallas and John David and Kathy Lewis of Plano; grandchildren, Andy Lewis and wife Lora Lewis of Katy, Texas, Melanie Lewis of Houston, Sam Lewis of Plano and Ben Lewis of Tyler; great grand-daughters Kaitlyn and Emmelyn Lewis of Katy; sister-in-law Jean Lewis Barrar of Dallas; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews, including Betty Breeland Odum and A. L. Breeland of Dallas. The family wishes to express its gratitude and deepest appreciation to Tommie Hatfield and the caregivers at T.L.C., Connie, Bertha, Norma, Sylvia and Angeline, for the wonderful care, love and kindness Hazel received the last 17 months of her life. The family also wishes to thank Currie Bessellieu and Irene Hicks, who assisted Hazel the last few years she spent in her home. Hazel and Roland, both faithful followers of Christ, were founding members of Greenland Hills United Methodist Church, then longtime members of Ridgewood Park United Methodist Church, both in Dallas. Their final church home was Highland Park United Methodist Church. For any desiring to do so, remembrances may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church “We Care Ministry,” 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas, Texas 75205, or to the charity of your choice. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 18, 2009 at Restland Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Restland Memorial Park with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Restland Abbey Chapel. Rev. Bill Smith will officiate at both services.
