Helen Irene Crall's Obituary
Helen I. Crall of Dallas, TX, passed away on April 27, 2009. Helen was born near Hardesty, Oklahoma (in the panhandle) to Stella and Robert Stiner on February 28, 1917. She had one full older sister, two years older, and six younger half siblings – four brothers and two sisters. After four years of age, she lived with her grandmother and grandfather in a sod house on the Oklahoma prairie. She attended 12 years of school in Hardesty, graduating as valedictorian of her high school class. Two years later, she enrolled in Panhandle A & M College in Goodwell, OK where she met her future husband, who came there as a teacher. They married after a brief courtship and the marriage lasted over 70 years. They had two daughters, Judy and Betsy. Helen stayed home to raise her family, but after the girls grew up and left home, she went back to work in the Accounting Department of the UT Health Science Center in Dallas until they moved to San Antonio. There she became Payroll Director in the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio until her retirement in 1977. In 1982, she and Paul moved back to Dallas to be closer to family. Throughout her life, Helen loved the Lord and faithfully studied His word. She had an active prayer life. She was often found taking food to the sick and helping those who had misfortune in their lives – even taking in a nephew and later a niece to help raise them. During retirement they enjoyed traveling and keeping active in their church and community. The Lord blessed Helen with a long, good life of 92 years. She is survived by her husband Paul; her daughters Judy and Betsy, Betsy’s husband Mike; three grandchildren, Whitney Hare and her husband Tommy, Heather Simmons and her husband Tom, and David Satterfield II and his wife Kerynne; and six great grandchildren; and one half-brother Robert Barnes. Service will be held graveside in the Garden of Ascension at Restland Memorial Park on Thursday, April 30th at 3:00 pm. Visitation with friends and family will be held on Wednesday, April 29th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home.
