Helen Lucille Crook's Obituary
Helen Crook, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on August 4, 2011. She was born on November 7, 1923, in Chariton County, Missouri, to Henry Clay Keen and Willie Gribble Keen. Helen attended the University of Missouri, where, in 1942, she was elected Queen of the Engineering School’s St. Patrick’s Day Ball and met her husband, William “Bill” Vick Crook. They married on January 30, 1944. Helen was a loving wife and mother, taking pride in being a homemaker for her family. Helen enjoyed all types of needlework, and never sat down without some quilting or crochet project in her hands. She was also an accomplished watercolor artist. Loving to travel, Helen and Bill enjoyed visiting many places with Great American Reserve conventions and with the Touring Tigers of Missouri, as well as annual trips to Hawaii, the Texas hill country, and Lake City, Colorado. She took great pleasure in their trips to New England in the fall and through the South during spring–always ready to turn off the beaten path to shop in an antique store or flea market. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant child, William V. Crook; Jr., brothers, Churchill Keen, Dr. Tom Keen, and John Keen; and by her sister, Dorothy O’Shaughnessy. She is survived by her husband; daughter, Laura Milligan, and husband Joe of Commerce, Texas; son, Thomas Crook, and wife Cindy of Grapevine, Texas; son, David Crook, of Celina, Texas; grandchildren Matthew Milligan and wife Amy, Tyler Milligan, wife Jennifer and son, Ian, Kelly Crook Badescu and husband Mike, Parker Crook and wife Amy, and Stephanie Crook; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special gratitude is extended to the wonderful staff at the Plaza at Edgemere, VITAS hospice, and special caregiver, Dicie Sumlin. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 5, 2011 from 6-8PM at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held at Park Cities Baptist Church, Ellis Chapel on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Helen’s name to a charity of your choice.
