Helen Hewett's Obituary
Hewett, Helen “Petie” Barry 74, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and treasured friend to many, passed away at her home in Dallas on August 28, 2011. Her giving heart and generous spirit were boundless as she endured her final years struggling with ALS while comforting those close to her with her abundant faith, courage, grace and dignity. Her steadfast love of family, friends and life was evident. She was born on February 8, 1937, in Dallas, Texas to William Denham and Yvonne Sabin Barry. She is predeceased by her parents and sister, Anne Barry Lewis. Petie graduated from North Dallas High School and attended Loretta Heights College in Denver, Colorado, and the University of Texas at Austin. In 1959 she married her college sweetheart, Art, aid they raised their family in Dallas and then spent many wonderful years at their home in Snowmass Village, Colorado, where they thrived on mountain sports and entertaining family and friends. Petie cherished her chosen career as homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She loved reading, gardening, outdoor activities, cooking and needlework, and she relished the years she spent delivering Meals on Wheels. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Arthur Edward Hewett, daughter Julie Anne Hewett of Dallas, son Matthew Sabin Hewett and his children Seth and Sally of Bakersfield, California, and daughter and son-in-law Clara Wagoner “Cissy” and Craig Allen Jones and their children, Hudson, Helen “Elle”, and Georgia of Dallas, many nieces, nephews, dear friends and “Molly”. The family wishes to express its heartfeIt appreciation for the caring professionals at U.T. Southwestern, especially doctors Jeffrey Elliot, Amit Shah and Joseph Viroslav. The family is also grateful for the loving care rendered at home by Emma Brown, Ofelia Moya, Cecilia Martinez, Alexis Bryant and Solidad Olvera. A memorial service will be held at Highland Park United Methodist Church in the main sanctuary at 2pm, Thursday, September 1, 2011. If desired, donations may be made to The Helen B.
