Helen Kanelos' Obituary
Born June 24, 1926 in St. Joseph, Missouri of Greek immigrant parents, George Kanelos and Stella Vamvakis and passed away March 4, 2020. She is preceded in death by her loving parents and beloved brother, William P. Kanelos. Helen is a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and Southern Methodist University. After graduating, she had a career at Sun Oil which is now known as Sunoco. She was a very active member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. She sang in the choir, participated in the annual Greek Festival of Dallas, The Daughters of Penelope, and Philoptochos, both women's philanthropic organizations. She and her brother were two of the members who founded the annual St. Basil Celebration every January 1st, a tradition that the whole community looks forward to each and every year. Helen enjoyed travel around the world, especially to London and Greece. She enjoyed spending time gardening, time with her friends but especially time with her godchildren. Helen is survived by her godchildren, Mary Ann Trapalis, Nick Chrissikos and wife Theodora; cousins, Sophia K. Paparonis of Oklahoma City, Nikolaos, Dimitrios, Michalis, Panagiotis and Vasilis Petropoulakis and Dimitrios and Eleni Rodopoulou all of Greece. Trisagion service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 5:00 pm at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The funeral will be Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 12:00 pm. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 13555 Hillcrest Road Dallas, Texas 75240. Pallbearers: Leonidas Boutris, John Christon, George R. Christon, Charles Pappas, Robert W. Wood and Michael Stevens. Honorary Pallbearers: James P. Christon, William A. Karahal, George Karahal, Basil Shropulos and Basil P. Xeros. Internment will be at Restland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
