Mrs. Helen Rosa Rains' Obituary
Helen Rosa Rains of Richardson, Texas passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas. She was 95 years of age.
She was born to the late Wiley F. and Rosa (Potts) Neal on June 24, 1925, in Kingston, Oklahoma, and was raised on her family farm. She graduated from Kingston High School in 1943, where she played clarinet in the marching band and remained active in their alumni association for most of her life.
Helen met the late Fred L. Rains of Brownwood, Texas (dec. 1998) at the US Corp. of Engineers in Denison, Texas, where both were working, and married him on April 21, 1944. They lived in Denison before moving to Dallas and then to Richardson, Texas in 1953. Helen worked for Moore Business Forms as a comptometer operator, and later sold real estate in the Richardson area for many years.
She is survived by her two sons David N. Rains and his wife Sarah of Vista, CA, and James W. Rains and his wife Linda of New Milford, CT. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Fred L. Rains, her sisters Ruby McKamy, Pauline Dishman and Ruth Wiggins, and by her brothers Virgil Neal, Fred Neal and Horace Neal.
Helen deeply loved her family and friends and was a great southern cook who delighted in feeding anyone fortunate enough to be in her home near mealtime. She had fascinating stories about her childhood on the family farm without electricity or running water, and often spoke of the enormous contrast between that world and her later life.
Interment will be at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas next to her beloved husband. There will be no funeral or viewing ceremony, but a memorial will be scheduled at a later date.
