Helen Lavern Sims' Obituary
In the middle of a dining room table in 1942 Helen Hawthorne was born to Carroll and Estaline Hawthorne. She grew up in Dallas TX and eloped with Wade (Dub) Sims in 1961. She was only 17 and had never been away from home. They had two children, Kelly Driver (husband Mark) and Pattie Sims (partner Johna Proctor). She had two wonderful granddaughters Sara Driver 23, and Grace Driver 21. She adored her granddaughters more than life itself and made sure they knew it. She attended all soccer games, drill team events, and orchestra performances. She made her career at Medical City Dallas where she worked in Material Management as administrator secretary for 23 years. She was more than just loved, she was admired and adored by all! After retirement she spent as much time with family as she could, especially with Sara and Grace. Pedicures, lunches, shopping for clothes. She made a trip to Denver to help move her oldest granddaughter to graduate school. What a great memory for them. She then helped her youngest granddaughter move back for a 3rd year in college! She was proud! Sadly she lost the love of her life 8 years ago. She was never the same. She missed him so much. She moved through life the best she could. Now she is with God and her beloved husband and smiling down on us! Well done! You have earned your wings and will with fly with the best of them. You will be missed tremendously and will forever be in our hearts! We love you! GODSPEED!The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, October 19, 2018, at Restland Funeral Home.A graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018, in the garden of memories at Restland Memorial Park at 3:00 PM.Funeral arrangements for Helen Lavern Sims have been faithfully entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, which is located at 13005 Greenville Ave., at the intersection of Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243, and can be reached at (972) 238-7111.
