My brother, Richard Ashley, and I had many happy times at the farm with Aunt Helen and Uncle Smithy, in Coke, Texas. Aunt Helen had a way of making the unfamiliar seem very normal to this city girl, who was fearful of the large cows! I remember eating Rice Krispie's cereal in her little country kitchen, and shelling peas and beans for dinner, on the porch overlooking the hills and country side.
Due to our health problems we had to move here in Oct to be near our son in Houston. Wanda, that is why I have not been to visit you and Helen. We loved Helen dearly and had so many fun phone chats with her. To live to be 100 plus- how wonderful. Please know that you and your family are in our prayers. My love, Peggy Duke
I am here now, I have made my final journey No need for you to shed a tear. I know that you are hurting deeply, But do not fear, Jesus is here with me. I understand that for you, it was all so very sudden I understand that none of this feels right. By all means cry, but when all your tears have fallen Remember happy times of us together, you and I. Speak to me as always you have spoken Think fondly upon memories we shared Time will heal, but please do not forget me I'll be waiting, here with Jesus, For the time to come when we will meet again. We will miss you dearly and will cherish the memories we've shared…..we love you Aunt Helen!
I remember running to the front door of our farm in Liberty City…waiting to see you and Buster drive up the old gravel road…as you walked up the walkway you would raise your voice saying "Hello Honey" your arms opened wide.I would run and jump in your arms..you always gave such huge hugs!!Such a strong caring woman, with a contagious laugh and beautiful smile!!I will miss you…but,I will see you again. I love you….Rita.
Some of my favorite memories of my youth was spending time at Aunt Helen's house. She was an inspiration and a remarkable woman. She will always hold a special place in my heart.
