Swafford, Helen Juanita's Obituary
Helen Juanita (Nita) Swafford, 82, passed away on Monday, September 16, 2023, in Denton, Texas. She was born in Dallas, Texas, on December 24, 1941to Edward Reed and IV Marie Reed and was the youngest of five children.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, September, 25, 2024, at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas.
Nita worked for many years as a legal secretary for several Dallas law firms. She concluded her career as Benefits Director for Lomas & Nettleton in Dallas.
Survivors include her daughter Dena Meek (husband, David Clifford Meek), son-in-law David Meek, grandson Dylan Everett Ladwig, sister Barbara Arnold, brother Jack Reed and eight nieces and ten nephews.
Nita and her late husband Jerry Wayne Swafford, the love of her life, moved from Dallas to Oak Point, Texas, in 2015 to be close to Dena, her husband David and Dylan. They loved their Oak Point home and the serenity of nature and wildlife that surrounded it.
Nita was preceded in death by her parents Edward Reed and IV Reed, brother Bill Reed, sister Rose Reed, daughter Gayla Jean Swafford, who died just before her 12th birthday, and her husband. When Nita was 12, she told her grandmother that someday she would marry Jerry.
Nita is remembered for her faith in Jesus, love for family and friends, collection of dolls, ability to lead loved ones to fun and laughter, and love for flowers and the color purple.
Nita leaves her loved ones and devoted friends with unforgettable memories and stories. She will be missed by all the wonderful individuals who knew and loved her.
The family asks that memorial gifts be sent to the City of Oak Point, 100 Naylor Road, Oak Point, TX 75068, designated “Wildflower Project.”
