Henry Dexter May's Obituary
DALLAS, TX – Henry Dexter May, 79, of Dallas passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2012 after a brief illness. Hank was born August 6, 1932 in Louisville, Kentucky to Allyne Walker May and Elijah Coakley May. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was proud to be in the Special Weapons Program. He then obtained a degree in Nuclear Physics from UCLA. After college, he worked for Atomics Intrernational in California in their Space Nuclear Reactor Program. He later worked for the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, DC and in Dallas, where he was in charge of reviewing safety procedures for U.S. nuclear reactors. Hank also had a lifelong interest in astrophysics and cosmology and prepared numerous technical papers in these fields of study. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Linda Marie Eiler. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Lisa May Nelson and Robert Henry May; son-in-law Ross B. Nelson and grandchildren Katherine, Emily and John Henry Nelson. He is also survived by his two sisters, Mary Lou May and Jan Tucker as well as his niece Denise Rodenbough and her family. After a private memorial service, Hank will be laid to rest at Restland Cemetery in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
