Henry Thomas Steely Sr.'s Obituary
STEELY, SR., HENRY THOMAS at the age of 94, Henry Thomas Steely Sr. passed from this life into the next, early in the morning of October 15, 2013. He was born on July 22, 1919 to C. R. Steely and Mary Tom Bingham Steely. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife, Margret Ann Allen Steely and ten brothers and sisters. Surviving Tom is his son, Dr. Henry Thomas Steely Jr., Alice W. Steely (daughter-in-law), Henry Thomas Steely III (grandson), Kadyn Haberly (great grandson), and Edna Coleburn (sister). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, who all affectionately call him “Uncle Tom.” Tom Steely loved his family, his friends, his church and his garden. As a devoted Methodist, he was most proud of being a member of his church and was the teacher of The Tom Steely Sunday School class for 51 years. During WWII, he served as an assistant chaplain in the Army Air Corp at Wendover, Utah under Col. Tibbets. Tom was the Vice President in charge of the lobby and tellers of the First National Bank of Downtown Dallas for 48 years. As such, he was the “personal banker” for not only some of the most powerful and wealthiest businessmen in Texas and the Southwest, but also for any individual, who just needed someone to trust. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held October 18, 2013, 10:00 AM at the First Methodist Church in Garland, Texas. The interment will be at Restland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made to the First Methodist Church in Garland.
