Herbert Lenton Hagler's Obituary
Hagler, Herbert L. (Hub) was born in Lindale, Texas and at the age ill four years the family moved to Coahoma, Texas where his father was a farmer until Hub was 9 years old. At that time Hub’s father opened a hamburger stand where all of the family was involved. Hub graduated from High School with a perfect attendance record, in Coahoma and soon after graduation started working in the oil field about 5 miles from town. In June 1937 Standard Oil Company of Texas employed him and in September that year he was transferred to Iraan, Texas. On October 29, 1937 he married Lovella Bell in Amarillo, Texas, who had lived in Big Spring, Texas and whom he had dated since a senior in High School. Hub’s services with Standard Oil were terminated on Dec. 31, 1940 and he and Lovella moved to Big Spring where Hub worked as a plumber until Feb. 1942 when they moved to San Diego, California where Hub was employed at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Company in the plant that was building B-24 Bombers for the war effort. After the close of World War II the Haglers moved back to Texas settling at Midland where Hub was again employed in the plumbing business opening his own shop in 1947. In 1948 it was back to the oil fields when Hub and his brother Dub purchased interest in a firm engaged in oil and gas well testing. Dub retired in 1974 and Hub and Lovella continued to operate the business until 1980, when they sold out to Arc pressure Data in Odessa. Hub was on their payroll until April 1982, when he retired and they moved to Presbyterian Village North in Dallas. After 13 years of retirement Hub was approached in 1995 by the Company who had purchased their Company and opened a Dallas office. He was again employed, as a Computer Operator (a trade he had taught himself). In November 1999 the Company moved their office to Denton and Hub commuted to Denton each day until July 2000. After breaking his right ankle in July 2000 and finally losing his right foot in April 2001 Hub started working at home and e-mailing data to Denton which he continued doing until 2007. Hub was elected to the Board of Deacons in the Presbyterian Church in 1938 and to the Session of Elders in 1951, he chaired the Board of Deacons 3 times and was Vice Moderator of the Session 3 times. He and Lovella dedicated 1 night per week for visitation for the Church for over 20 years. About 1970 Hub started doing Lay Preaching and filled the Pulpit in many Churches in towns all over West Texas, and continued to preach occasionally after moving to Dallas. He served 2 terms on the Board of Directors for The Presbytery of Tres Rios and was on the Board of Directors of Presbyterian Pan American School in Kingsville, Texas for 2 terms. Hub is survived by his wife of 74 years Lovella, 2 sons Herb and wife Jody, of Dallas Randy of Bastrop, Texas; grandson Jeff and wife Sam of Plano; grandson Ryan and granddaughter Erika, 2 great granddaughters Rhi and A. J. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Presbyterian Village North Memorial Fund.
