Herbert Henry Herndon's Obituary
Herndon, Herbert Henry Lt. Col., USAF, Ret. of Dallas, Texas passed away on June 19, 2008. Lt. Col. Herndon was born July 17, 1918 in Oilton, Oklahoma. He spent 26 years serving his country as a maintenance/supply officer in the United States Air Force. He served the majority of his military career in the Strategic Air Command. He was a graduate of Squadron Officers’ School and the Air Command and Staff College. His awards included the Commendation Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Air Force Longevity Award w/4 oak leaf clusters, and the Air Force Commendation Medal w/1 oak leaf cluster. After retiring from the Air Force, he joined Midas Corp. He had two great loves in his life – our mother, Hallibel Herndon who preceded him in death in 1992, and Lou Daugherty, his friend and constant companion over the last 14 years. Of his two sons he said ‘Through my boys I’ve enjoyed several lives, through which I’ve grown to heights never dreamed. What blessings I’ve been given no man has been more awarded.’ He is survived by sons Stan Herndon and Mike Herndon. Grandson Chris Herndon and granddaughter Julie Herndon. Great grandsons Ben Herndon, Jack Herndon and Jacob Dahle-Malsaether. Great granddaughter Karleigh Dahle-Malsaether. He was a friend of Bill W. for 38 years. A graveside military ceremony will be conducted at Restland Cemetery in Dallas on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 10:00 am.
