Herbert Morton Thompson's Obituary
THOMPSON, HERBERT MORTON (MORT) died at Baylor Hospital, Garland, on January 18, 2012 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife, Janis; sons, Greg, Glen, and Will, daughter-in-law, Teresa; and grandchildren Kyle, Sara, Matthew, Hannah, and Quinn. Mort grew up in Tyler and Midland, TX. and Shreveport, LA. He obtained Bachelor degrees in geology and English from the University of Texas. He served in the United States Air Force and was stationed overseas at Crete. Mort, retired after a career as a geophysicist. He and Janis celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary in 2010. Mort’s hobbies included painting and Native American cultures. He often combined the two, and several of his paintings were displayed in the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, TX. Mort was a long time member of the Dallas Geological/Geophysical Society. Services will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 3:00 PM in Restland’s Abbey Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Heart Association.
