Herman E (Bud) Niswonger was born on January 23, 1936 in Neelyville, Missouri to Herman and Ivah (Lorey) Niswonger and peacefully passed to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law Karen and Terry Roe of Garland, Texas.
Bud grew up in southeastern Missouri and Wewoka Oklahoma before moving to Oklahoma City and graduating from Central High in 1953. He moved to Dallas and worked for a steel company before deciding to attend Arlington College. He moved to Lubbock to continue his education and it was there that Bud determined the passions that would shape his life: faith, family and career.
Bud was baptized into Christ in 1961 and began a life long walk with the Lord. He met the love of his life, Mary Elizabeth Holt. They were married at the Sunset Church of Christ on August 18, 1961.
He graduated from Texas Tech University with a BS in Architecture in 1962.
Bud and Mary moved to Dallas, Texas where he began a career in architecture which spanned over 50 years. He worked for the Bud Ogelsby Group and then for O’Brien and Associates for over 30 years. Bud’s projects included Richland College, the Majestic Theater renovation and hundreds of commercial projects across the country.
He was a long time member of the Irving Church of Christ and designed their original building. Bud cherished his Christian relationships which spanned many decades.
Bud is survived by his son David Niswonger, his daughter Karen Roe and husband Terry, grandsons Andrew Roe, Michael Roe and James Roe, niece Anne Alford and nephew Alan Jones. Bud is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years Mary, his parents, and sister Margaret Jones.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 4th at 10:00 am in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home, officiated by Minister Jim Crouch. Memorial arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75238.
