Hobart Clay Marchant's Obituary
Hobart Clay Marchant passed away on March 22, 2012 in Carrollton, Denton County, Texas. He was born on October 23, 1920 in Dodd City, Fannin County, Texas to Shelby Ernest Marchant, Sr. and Hulda Ann (Shannon) Marchant. Hobart joined the United States Army on September 2, 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater of World War II as a radio operator, including ground combat at Iwo Jima. He was honorably discharged on December 5, 1945 at Fort Bliss. He married the love of his life, Frances Helen Jones, on August 18, 1950 in Grand Prairie, Texas. After residing in the Bonham area of Fannin County for a short time, he and Helen relocated their growing family to the Carrollton-Farmers Branch area where he opened a barber shop with his brothers in North Dallas. He was a charter member of the Carrollton Church of the Nazarene and was an active member throughout his life. In the 1970’s he successfully pursued a roofing and building business, owning H.C. Marchant Custom Homes and working with his sons in the building business until his retirement. Hobart was known for his gentle, caring manner and his genuine concern for friends and family. His work ethic, values and integrity have set the example for his entire family and have been an inspiration for many in the community. He was an especially loving grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Marchant of Carrollton, his five children, Kenny Marchant and his wife Donna of Coppell, Ronnie Marchant of Carrollton, Randy Marchant and his wife Cindy of Plano, Sandra Mitchell of Carrollton and Pam Marchant of Carrollton. He is also survived by two of his sisters, Betty Struble and her husband Jack of Farmers Branch and Imogene Kennedy of Arlington and his brother, Shelby Ernest (S.E.) Marchant, Jr. and his wife Dosia of Farmers Branch. He was preceded in death by his sister, Obera Butler, his brother Thurman Marchant, and his granddaughter Lindsey Kae Marchant. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren: Shawn, Matthew, Candice, Luke, Eric, Guy, Kenny Jr., Makenzie, Dallas, Jarred, Zachary, Briana, Hannah, Madeline and Samuel and six great-grandchildren: Chloe, Kendall, Christian, Hayden, Ashton, Jayden, and Trinity. Hobart Clay Marchant was the father of United States Congressman Kenny E. Marchant and Denton County Commissioner Ron Marchant and the grandfather of Matthew H. Marchant, Mayor of Carrollton. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2012 at Carrollton Nazarene Church, 1529 East Hebron Parkway, Carrollton, Texas 75010, Reverend Matt Rice and Reverend Mike Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Restland Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carrollton Nazarene Church in honor of Hobart Marchant.
