Homer Lee Cotham's Obituary
Cotham, Homer Lee, 96, was born October 26, 1917 in Alton, Missouri and passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2014 in Sachse, Texas. He was the youngest of three boys raised in rural Oklahoma. Homer graduated from Tryon High School and earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater Oklahoma, now Oklahoma State University. Immediately following the tragic event of Pearl Harbor, Homer enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served his country with great pride during World War II while stationed in New Guinea, Philippines, and Australia. Following the war, he and his wife, Veretta started their family and began his career with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., ultimately retiring from Goodyear in the early 70s, from Shook Tire Co. thereafter, and from the IRS at the age of 83. He was a devoted provider and a loving husband, father, and grandparent who lived his beliefs of faith and family with great purpose and pride. Homer is survived by his daughters, Dorletta Payne and Jackie Davenport; six granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sular and Rachel Cotham; two brothers; his loving wife of 73 years, Veretta; and granddaughter, Meagan Flanagan. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 2:00-4:00PM at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 11, 2014 at 3:00PM at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
