Homer Lewis Medlin's Obituary
MEDLIN, HOMER LEWIS 89, passed away peacefully March 8, 2010, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. From a West Texas ranch near Garden City, TX, Homer arrived in Dallas in 1946 where he and his wife of 63 years, Dorothy A. Jordan, created a rich legacy. Lt. Medlin went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone, retiring as Div Mgr of Network Enginnering in 1985 after 39 years. Born Sept.3, 1920 to Lewis Jerome and Mary Lydia Medlin in Midland, he left West Texas in 1943 after earning a BS in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech. Other life highlights included lifetime devotion to his family and his church. Chairman of the Board for Mt. Auburn and for Lakeview Christian Church. A US Army corporal in the Signal Corps (1943-1945) in India, he later became a Navy ensign (1945-1946) due to his engineering education, leaving the Navy as lieutenant. A member of the NSPE; IEEE (life); TX Society of Prof. Engineers; Dallas Electric Club (pres 1964); TX Society of Telephone Engineers; Tele Pioneers of AM (pres 1989-90 Dallas); Tau Beta Pi, An Eagle Scout and later scout leader, Homer never forgot his Jamboree trip to DC, his jr. year in high school. He was an active volunteer for numerous organizations. Devoted father and grandfather, he is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy J. Medlin; daughters Debra S. Medlin Leonard and husband Dr. Frank A. Leonard and Dianne Knox Trese and husband Dr. Thomas Trese; son, Gary L. Medlin and wife Yuliya Medlin; grandson Colin Knox; sister Mary Lou Medlin McGregor and brother S. A. Medlin; many nieces and nephews. A Graveside service will be held on Monday at 9:30AM, Monday, March 15, 2010 with a memorial service following at 10:00AM, at Restland Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 4:00PM – 6:00PM, Sunday at Restland Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzhiemers Association on www.alz.org or at 1-800-540-2415.
