Hongwu Wang's Obituary
Today, we celebrate the life of our beloved Hongwu (“Paul”) Wang, who peacefully left us on May 17th, 2025 at the age of 63 following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. The family is deeply saddened and shocked by his sudden passing. Born on March 4th, 1962, he was the heart and soul of our family.
Paul, as he was affectionately known, is lovingly remembered for his dedication to his family, willingness to take on challenges, and proactive approach to problem-solving. Paul was a lifelong learner and engineer at heart who took pride in his ability to fix almost anything. We couldn’t have asked for a better father and will miss him every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew him.
In 1983, Paul earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at South China University of Technology [华南理工大学] in Guangzhou, China. Paul met his beloved wife, Zhi, in Chengdu, China in 1988. Excited to start their new lives together, the two were married in Chengdu on July 24, 1990. Later that year, they immigrated to the U.S. for Paul to pursue a Master of Science in Computer Science at The University of Texas at San Antonio.
Paul was most recently a DevOps Engineer at Bank of America, where he worked for over 7 years. His coworkers remember him as a respectful and collaborative team player who contributed to several critical projects. Prior to that, he spent the majority of his career at Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, as a Solution Architect for 12 years.
Paul and Zhi were blessed with two children, Diana (30) and Kevin (27), and nothing was more important to them. Paul helped cultivate their competitive spirit, independent thinking, and problem-solving skills. He was extremely involved in their extracurricular activities growing up, serving as an assistant soccer coach, golf coach, tennis hitting partner, and chess partner. Paul supported his kids in everything they took an interest in, from attending practices and tournaments, to learning alongside and suggesting ways to improve their game. Paul also had a special bond with his daughter’s corgi, Mr. Darcy (4), and was actively involved in his training and socialization as a puppy. The two enjoyed long walks around Lake Lewisville, and Darcy’s eyes lit up whenever they reunited. Diana is currently a Director of Finance and Strategy at Transcarent, and Kevin is a Software Engineer at Salesforce.
Everyone who knew Paul knew how much he loved sports, particularly golf and ping pong. Prior to his diagnosis, he would often golf multiples times per week. Paul was also an active member of the North Texas Asian Photographer’s Association, devoting his free time to learning about photography and traveling across the world on photography trips.
Paul was preceded in death by his father, Guangshi Wang, and in-laws, Zhi Zheng and Zhangji Li. He is survived by his mother, Zhejing Zhang, and siblings, Jianhui Wang, Wei Wang, Xiangling Wang.
Paul was cremated and will be buried on June 24, 2025 at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, TX.
