Hope Meppen's Obituary
Funeral arrangements are complete at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas, TX for Hope Meppen who passed away at the age of 84 years on September 17th in her home at Gruene Senior Living in New Braunfels, TX. Hope was born in Foard City, TX on February 12, 1927 to Ethel and Jodie Brown. After graduating from Crowell High School, she left home at the age of 17 to attend business college in Wichita Falls, TX. While working at Sheppard Field in Wichita Falls, she met John Meppen, a young Army Air Corps farm boy from Racine, Minnesota. They were married in Lubbock, TX on July 5, 1947. She enjoyed a full life as a farm wife in Racine, MN; housewife in Babbitt, MN; and as a secretary in Garland, TX while raising 2 sons. Hope and John retired to their dream home in Hot Springs Village, AR, where they were founding members of, and very involved with, Barcelona Road Baptist Church. Hope remained in Hot Springs Village until 2008, when she moved to New Braunfels. She is survived by sons John Meppen, Jr. (Marti) and Craig Meppen (Sharon); grandchildren Amy Neal (Paul), Allison Hutchins, and Leanne Duigan (Alan); great-grandchildren Andrew and Christopher Neal, and Thomas Hutchins; sisters Bonita Lowe (Art) and Pat Peters (Al); sisters-in-law Doris Jane Brown and Ginger Brown; and numerous nieces and nephews. Hope was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John Meppen; parents Ethel and Jodie Brown; brothers Durward Brown, Pete Brown and Lewis Brown; sister Ramona Brown; and sister-in-law Sylvia Ruth Brown. Visitation is from 6:00-8:00 PM on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, September 24, 2011, at the Abbey Chapel in Restland Memorial Park In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity or foundation of one’s choice.
